Dictation is part of Anarlog Pro. Keep Anarlog running, focus a text field in another app, and use your shortcut to speak instead of type. This does not create a meeting note.

Set up dictation

  1. Open Settings → Dictation and enable dictation.
  2. Record your preferred shortcut and choose a microphone.
  3. Use Language & transcription to choose the language and Transcription provider. Hosted providers receive your audio; a supported local provider keeps transcription on your computer.
  4. Allow microphone access and any permissions requested under Settings → Permissions. On macOS, text insertion needs Accessibility permission.
  5. Click the Try dictation field in Settings and test the shortcut.
Hold the shortcut while speaking and release it to finish. With Hands-free dictation enabled, press once to start and again to finish. Text is inserted when transcription finishes. Live transcript preview shows words in the floating panel when the selected provider supports a live connection. Dictation stops after five minutes and pauses while Anarlog records a meeting. Press Escape to cancel; on Wayland, use Control + Alt + Escape.

If insertion fails

Keep the original text field focused until dictation finishes. If the target changed or the app cannot insert text, open Settings → Dictation and choose Copy last dictation, then paste it yourself. The last transcript stays in memory until you disable dictation or quit Anarlog. On Linux, approve the desktop’s shortcut prompt on Wayland. The target app must expose an editable accessibility field; password fields are excluded. Clear a selected text range before dictating, or use the copy action to replace it yourself. Dictation is a desktop interaction. The CLI and MCP interfaces do not start dictation or insert text into other apps.
